Holly Cottage

Welsh holiday cottage location

Hidden in the beautiful Vale of Montgomery sits Holly Cottage; a pre-Victorian self catering holiday cottage. Its tranquil rural setting makes it the perfect place in which to relax and an ideal base from which to explore the many attractions of Mid Wales including Powis Castle at Welshpool. The ancient towns of Newtown, Welshpool and Montgomery are all nearby with antique shops, museums, castle ruins and art galleries. On the border of Powys and Shropshire, Holly Cottage offers a comfortable rural retreat away from the rush and bustle of modern life.

Holly Cottage nestles in a small hamlet called Hodley, mid way between Newtown, Welshpool and Montgomery on a quiet road known as the Dingle. It is reached from a little country lane which hardly sees any traffic. There are many walks from the door step -public footpaths are easily accessible from Hodley which lead onto the Vale of Montgomery and also the Vale of Kerry. It is also easy to access well known walks such as Offas' Dyke, Glyndwrs' Way and the Kerry Ridgeway.

There is a lot to see and do in this beautiful area of The Marches including walking, cycling, golf, horse riding, castles to explore and pretty villages and towns. Nearby are the dams of Lake Vyrnwy and the Elan Valley which offer spectacular views across the countryside of Wales. Holly Cottage's central location on the border of Wales and England, and good road links makes it an ideal base with easy driving to Welshpool, Montgomery, Shrewsbury, Chester, Ludlow, Machynlleth and Builth Wells.

Slightly further away lie the beautiful Brecon Beacons, breathtaking Snowdonia and the Cardigan Bay beaches of Aberystwyth with Aberdyfi and Borth just an hour's drive away. Holly Cottage offers high quality self catering accommodation for 2 or 3 people. It is ideal for a couple, 3 friends or small family. The cottage has a private enclosed garden and pets are welcome. Set in the quiet hamlet of Hodley, Holly Cottage is thought to have been part of a bakery in the 19th century. It is a traditional stone cottage and has been extensively but sensitively refurbished yet it retains many original features such as the inglenook fireplace, bread oven and exposed beams. This charming two bedroom cottage is mid terrace with its own parking and secluded garden with views across the Vale of Montgomery and Vale of Kerry.

The entrance porch leads into the sitting/dining room with solid oak flooring throughout. The room has an inglenook fireplace housing an original cast iron range and bread oven. The exposed beams in the ceiling and the log burning stove add to the charm of the cottage. There is a satellite TV and various games and jigsaw puzzles to make your holiday more relaxing. The sitting room leads to the kitchen and also the stairway via doors.

The pretty master bedroom has a double bed, bedside cabinets, a large hanging wardrobe and a chest of drawers. There is an attractive original Victorian tiled fireplace. The window looks out over the garden and has a lovely view over the Vale of Montgomery towards the north east. There is an additional single bedroom which has a single bed and chest of drawers. The bathroom is accessed via this bedroom so it would equally make a good dressing room. The bathroom has a bath with overhead shower, electric towel rail.

The kitchen is equipped with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, electric oven with grill and ceramic hob, microwave, toaster, kettle. A starter pack is provided to make the start of your holiday just that little bit easier.

To the rear of the property is a small fully enclosed walled yard with a door to the kitchen - an ideal area to leave pets or for them to get some fresh air without risk of running off. There is an additional private garden at the front of the cottage. There is a lawned area surrounded by mature shrubs. An outdoor table and chairs are provided. The garden is fully enclosed and there is plenty of room for a BBQ. There is parking for 1 car in the private drive adjacent to the garden.

Just 2 miles away, at the owner's property, there are very child friendly facilities for all the family. In the 'communal' garden (shared by the other holiday lets - Forest Keep, Forest Cottage and Forest Byre) there is a play area for young children and a large timber fort for older children. In addition, there is a games room above the stables with table football, table tennis and pool table so that there is plenty to enjoy in wet weather too with games to keep children and adults amused. There is also a tennis court available for use during your stay.
