Forest Keep and Forest Cottage
Forest Keep and Forest Cottage can be opened up to create one large cottage with five bedrooms which can sleep nine. These beautiful properties which were sensitively restored a few years ago are centrally located in Montgomeryshire. Midway between North Wales and South Wales, the good road links makes it an ideal base for visiting local towns such as Welshpool, Montgomery, Shrewsbury, Chester, Ludlow and Aberystwyth.
There are many beautiful places to visit in the area with famous walks such as the Kerry Ridgeway , Offa's Dyke and Glyndwr's Way. There are wonderful lakes at Elan Valley, Llyn Clywedog and Vyrnwy and many forests such as Hafren and Radnor.
Wales is often called the 'Land of Castles' with some of the finest examples of medieval castles. Less than an 30 minute drive from the cottage is Powis Castle near Welshpool. It is a medieval castle, built around 1200 and originally made as a fortress by welsh princes. Another must on the castle trail just 10 minutes away are Montgomery and Dolforwyn castles which fought each other in the 13th centrury leading to the creation of Newtown. Nearby is Stokesay Castle, one of the finest and best preserved 13th century fortified manor house in England. It offers visitors a unique glimpse into a distant age, when strength and elegance were combined.
Keen gardeners will enjoy the many beautiful gardens open to the public. Within a short walk of the property is CWM-Weeg which is one of several noted gardens close to this enchanting holiday let. Within a short drive there are several other gardens which the visitor can enjoy including the grand stately home gardens of Powis Castle and Glansevern Hall just a short drive away.
Wales is also known for its beautiful beaches, the nearest beaches to the property are at Cardigan Bay about an hour's drive away. Aberdovey and Borth are both Blue Flag sandy beaches with lots to offer the family. Aberdyfi is a lovely and thriving little harbour resort with golden sandy beaches within the Snowdonia National Park. There is crab fishing from the pier, many water sports and a steam railway nearby. Or take a visit to Borth which has three miles of gently shelving golden sand with great surfing.
Why not take a trip down memory lane and enjoy the 'romance' of the steam era. Steam railways are the perfect way to see the countryside and often give you the chance to see deer and birds of prey, heron, kingfisher and even otters. Many lines have been reclaimed over the years by groups of dedicated enthusiasts and there are 4 within a 1 hour drive of The Forest including Welshpool and Llanfair with its stunning views through Banwy Valley. Mid Wales has something for everyone. The breathtaking scenery of the mountains, reservoirs, castles, historic sights, festivals and unique attractions all add up to a great holiday or short break.

This is the perfect self-catering option for anyone planning a family holiday or a large group holiday in Wales. Forest Keep and Forest Cottage are two cottages that can be opened up to create one large cottage with five bedrooms which can comfortably sleep nine. By treating the two cottages as one it is possible to create a cottage which can accommodate a larger group which still allows families to have their own space. It is ideal for a family get together.
This property has been furnished and decorated to a very high standard, there are solid oak flooring throughout the living rooms and the wood burning stoves are ideal for creating a cosy atmosphere for the family to relax by. Both sitting rooms have satellite TVs and various board games and jigsaw puzzles. The dining room table may be extended to provide ample seating. The room includes an ornate Edwardian fireplace and a bay window which looks out into the garden.
The two twin rooms each have two pine single beds, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers. The master bedrooms have a double or kingsize iron bedstead and wardrobe with drawers. There is plenty of room in the kingsize room for an extra bed so the room can be set as a family, twin or as a triple room.
The single bedroom is located on the ground floor next to the cloakroom which has a basin and WC. The solid oak flooring makes this room ideal as a playroom or private sitting room or may suit anyone who has difficulty with stairs.
Both kitchens are very well equipped with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, toaster and built in electric oven and hob. The bathroom and shower rooms have electric towel rails and shaver points. There is a washing machine in the utility room which connects the two cottages.
The private garden is to the rear and has a lawned area with table and chairs and is enclosed on three sides
The property is very child friendly with facilities for all the family. In the 'communal' garden (shared by the other holiday let - Forest Byre) there is a play area for young children and a large timber fort for older children. In addition, there is a games room above the stables with table football, table tennis and pool table so that there is plenty to enjoy in wet weather too with games to keep children and adults amused. There is also a tennis court available for use during your stay.
The owners are happy for dogs and horses to come too by prior arrangement. There are three large internal stables and there is also a smaller stall suitable for a pony. Shavings can be provided for bedding. There are 2 separate paddocks of 1.25 acre and 0.5 acre which may be used, ground conditions permitting.
All heating and electricity costs are included in the rental price, as are logs for the open fire. Bed linen and towels are provided and beds are made up ready for guests to arrive.
Change over day is usually Friday but there is flexibility available as with check in times. Short breaks and weekend bookings are possible.
