Wye Valley Cottage
Brockweir, Wye Valley, Wales

Situated in the Lower Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Brockweir village has changed little since the days of its lively river trade and boatbuilding industry and many of the buildings remain almost as they were centuries ago. The surrounding area is also rich in history and often described as a rambler’s paradise. The ruins of Tintern Abbey are nearby and the village is on the edge of the Royal Forest of Dean within easy reach of both the Wye Valley footpath and Offa’s Dyke Path.

The Wye Valley and Vale of Usk is a great area to explore from the Black Mountains in the north to the market towns of Abergavenny and Monmouth as well as the rural valleys around Newport and Chepstow on the banks of the River Severn. There is a rich industrial heritage and a visit to the Blaenavon Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site gives a wonderful insight into the reality of the lives of generations of miners. The Nelson Museum in Monmouth has one of the best collections about Britain’s famous admiral and even includes his glass eye.

Endless opportunities abound for you to enjoy the great outdoors. Anglers are spoilt for choice with fishing on rivers, reservoirs and the sea and the Wye is well known as one of the premier canoeing rivers in Britian. There are miles of designated paths for walking and cycling and the chance to enjoy a day’s pony trekking in the Black Mountains.
