Strawberry Wood Barn
Strawberry Wood Barn is surrounded by fields with the most spectacular views down the Llantony valley in the Black Mountains. Situated on the border with England and Wales with the Offa's Dyke running along the top of the hill, it is amazing walking and riding country. You feel as though you are in the middle of nowhere yet you are only 15 minutes drive from Abergavenny(with one of the largest Waitrose around) and 20 minutes from Hereford.
The Barn is perched high on Hatterall Ridge in the Brecon Beacons National Park and as such has outstanding views, from the kitchen window the valley sweeps away before you towards Hay on Wye. Set in 3.5 acres of land, there is a flat grass lawn (ideal for football) and a trampoline (used at your own risk). At one corner of the land there is a footpath down to the Queen's Head Pub through Strawberry Wood a perfect spot for a bite to eat. There are other great restaurants and pubs very close to the Barn particularly the well known Walnut Tree restaurant which is only a 10 minute drive.
The number of activities you can do in the area is extensive, from pony trekking, castles visits, hill climbing, hang gliding, mountain biking, shooting and fishing to name but few! There really is something for everyone here. Ideal for a family holiday or for a group of friends.
Strawberry Wood Barn was created from two beautiful old barns. They have been sympathetically renovated to create one stunning, luxury country family home. You really are in the middle of nowhere with only sheep for neighbours yet remember that Abergavenny is only a 15 minute drive away and Hereford is 20 mins.
Abergavenny is charming with many shops, restaurants and coffee shops and of course its castle! It also has a festival, a food one, in September and a Steam Engine Rally in June. Every Tuesday there is a market where you can buy numerous delicious homemade products such as jam and cakes. Not far is Hay-on-Wye, famous for its literary festival and second hand book shops. The festival takes place at the beginning of June every year. Hay is worth a visit with many nice shops to wander around.
We think that you will find so much to do in the area that you will wish you had booked for longer!

It has taken the owners over 4 years to turn the two barns into the stunning family home it now is. There is underfloor heating throughout, handmade curtains creating a warm and beautiful home.
The large kitchen is a light and there are French windows that open onto a sheltered courtyard on one side where you will find a very large bbq and a table tennis table. On the other side of the kitchen, the doors open onto the other terrace which looks down the valley. Here you will find a large sunbed ideal to relax on a sunny day. In addition, there is a large outdoor table which seats twelve so you can easily eat outside and enjoy the sun and views.
The handmade kitchen is very well equipped, there is a Swedish antique table which seats 12 comfortably, a Lacanche range with 2 ovens and 5 rings on the hob, a dishwasher and a butler's sink. There are limestone floors in the kitchen, hall and downstairs loo.
Just a few steps up from the kitchen you will find the sitting room. This has an open fireplace, comfortable sofas and chairs and French windows that also open onto the courtyard. There is a TV with a DVD player in a cupboard in the sitting room with a selection of DVDs for you to use and books should you have the odd rainy day!
A few steps down from the kitchen, there is a TV room/playroom so ideal for those with children/teenagers. There are comfy sofas and a very large flat screen television with Sky and lots of games and DVD's.
The owners have thought of everything as there is a built in music system with an ipod which you can use in the kitchen, sitting room, playroom and main bedroom. In the understair cupboards in the playroom there is a washing machine, tumble drier, microwave and a small freezer.
The master bedroom has French windows which open onto its own terrace. There is a table and chairs so you can enjoy a coffee looking at the view. The master has an ensuite bathroom with a roll top bath and two basins. Via an interconnecting door, next door is a child's bedroom with a sleigh bed (and a travel cot if required)
All the beds in the house, except the sleigh bed, are Vi Spring and have goose down duvets, pillows and mattress toppers. Four bedrooms have super king size beds and one bedroom has two large singles and there is also the child's bedroom. The bedlinen is all Eygptian cotton.
Apart from the master ensuite, there are two further bathrooms. All bathrooms have heated towel rails and roll topped baths to soak in after a long walk. Two out of three of the bathrooms have a shower and there is a downstairs loo.
Over the Severn Bridge and then it takes about 40 minutes. It is important to note that the barn is approached from a muddy track which can be difficult to drive in adverse weather conditions - snow and heavy rain in particular.
