Tywyn Cottage, Beddgelert
Porthmadog
Snowdonia

Welsh holiday cottage location

This 5 Star holiday cottage in Snowdonia enjoys fabulous mountain views across wooded hillsides and sheep pastures. Sleeping 7-8 in 4 bedrooms, the cottage has a real log fire and indoor heated swimming pool. If you're looking for a quality holiday home for families with children or an unbeatable destination for a walking, fishing or sightseeing holiday then this lovely Welsh cottage is first-rate.

The cottage is near the mountain village of Beddgelert, which nestles amongst enormous rock buttresses, steep slopes and green hills. The village has pubs, shops, restaurants and a children's play area and has been the winner of Wales in Bloom on more than one occasion. Further down the road the proud maritime town of Porthmadog lies on the Glaslyn Estuary and has interesting craft shops, some good restaurants, a golf course and a driving range. The town is a haven for railway buffs too - it's possible to catch a 'toy' railway through the hills to the biggest slate caverns in the world.

The cottage is a fisherman's paradise - the river Glaslyn, with salmon and trout fishing and summer swimming flows from Snowdon just a couple of hundred metres away from the house. It's hard to a imagine a more superb base for a walking holiday - from your door you can go into remote and beautiful hills - or if you'd prefer to use public transport, the Sherpa minibus serves the Snowdon massif and can drop you right back to the door. And you can have the best of both - mountains and coast at this dreamy cottage as the sandy beaches and rocky coves of Cardigan Bay are less than an hour's drive.

There are many other great days out in this stunningly beautiful area of Wales - the amazing Italianate village of Portmeirion is close by, and there are great castles - Harlech, Caernarfon and Cricieth are all within thirty minutes drive.

Just on your doorstep, the hills behind the cottage are home to ancient copper mines; one, Sygun, can be entered safely with a guide. Meanwhile, down the lane are horseriding stables, and you can explore forgotten bridleways and woodland paths on horseback, stopping perhaps for lunch at a country pub. Or - you can sit quietly and just read or snooze by the beautiful tumbling mountain stream behind the cottage. And at night, if you are lucky, and very, very quiet, badgers will come to feed at Tywyn Cottage!

Accommodation:
Tywyn self-catering cottage stands back a little from a country road, next to the owner's house, around 1.5 miles from the village of Beddgelert. It has been furnished and equipped it to a standard that the owners themselves would be delighted with. The property has a private indoor heated swimming pool so you can follow a day in the great outdoors with a quick dip in the pool before flopping in front of the open log fire.

On the ground floor, the open plan lounge leads into a homely farmhouse style kitchen-diner, well equipped with a cooker, microwave washing machine, tumble dryer and with all the utensils you'll require. The ground floor has two twin bedrooms, both with ensuite bathrooms, making them accessible for the less able. Upstairs is a spacious double bedroom, as well as a single, which could act as a compact twin. The family bathroom is also upstairs. The cottage can comfortably accommodate 7 or 8, making this an excellent choice for a large family break or multi-activity holiday for a group.

The owners have thought of everything to ensure that your stay is a happy one. If you don't wish to be out and about every minute of every day, there are four colour televisions, video player / recorder with library of tapes, two music centres, chess, Monopoly, Scrabble, jigsaws, interesting books and magazines, plenty of novels and good maps and guide books to the locality (one wall is covered by a huge 1:25,000 Ordnance Survey map of the whole of North Wales!). Should you return from the hills cold or wet, then enjoy a hot power shower or bath and central heating. Snuggle down in front of the open log fire with a hot drink and good music, with soft lighting from oil lamps or candles if you prefer. There is ample parking.
