Gilfach Goch Llanbedr, Gwynedd, Snowdonia
Gilfach Goch is the original 400 year old farmhouse on this traditional 60 acre Welsh hill farm with sheep and cattle. This gorgeous self-catering holiday cottage in Snowdonia is grade 2 listed as "a good example of a smaller regional farmhouse, part of unspoilt farmstead" - it is a wonderful place for a holiday in Wales. The farm overlooks the sea and the famous Shell Island, just above the farm buildings there are panoramic views of the whole of Cardigan Bay with the Llyn Peninsular stretching away to the right. On a clear day its possible to see 100 miles down to Pembrokeshire. Gilfach Farm is secluded and very private and it is possible to see the very top of Snowdon from the farm.
Llanbedr is situated mid way between Barmouth and Pothmadog on the coast road (just 10 mins from the beaches). It is probably the prettiest village on the coast and although small it has 3 shops, 2 pubs and a restaurant so you are spoilt for choice if you don't want to cook on your self-catering holiday! This is secret Snowdonia where the mountains meet the sea and is an idyllic spot for a holiday in Wales. Rugged mountain scenery and many beautiful safe sandy beaches make it an ideal place to stay for a family holiday
Snowdonia is great for all outdoor activities from walking at all grades from riverside walks to serious mountain walking including of course climbing Snowdon. Cycling is plentiful, whether it's along the Mawddach flat trail to quiet country lanes to the more serious off road mountain biking in the world renowned Coed-Y-Brenin mountain bike centre. Snowdonia is a wild country for bird watching or fishing in the many mountain streams and lakes.
If you want to play golf if Wales then the world famous Royal St Davids golf course at Harlech is within easy reach of the cottage. There is a wealth of culture to experience and discover in this part of Wales. From the ancient burial chambers and standing stones to great castles like Harlech and Caernarfon. There are lovely tourist villages like Portmerrion (where they filmed "The Prisoner" in the 1960s). Children (and adults!) will love the little steam trains to ride like the Ffestiniog railway not to mention the railway actually up Snowdon, the highest mountain in England and Wales at 3560ft.
