It is surrounded by spectacular coastal scenery renowned for its beauty and abundance of wildlife. Whitesands Bay, one of the many beautiful beaches in the area, carries the prestigious European Blue Flag Award.
St David's Cathedral has been the dominant presence since the 12th century and was a popular pilgrimage destination throughout the middle ages and indeed remains so to this day attracting thousands of visitors every year. Adjacent to the cathedral stand the magnificent ruins of the medieval Bishop's Palace. There is also a thriving artistic community in and around St David's with many galleries and studios to visit.
Pembrokeshire National Park is Britain's only truly coastal national park. It's a spectacular landscape of rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, wooded estuaries and wild inland hills, and a place of sanctuary for wildlife. People belong here, too. They have shaped the landscape over the centuries, leaving their mark in tombs and castles, crosses and cottages, quarries and quays. Today this is a living, working landscape where people and nature co-exist in this idyllic part of Wales.
Pembrokeshire is a fantastic place to get on the water. Those seeking an active holiday have the choice of a huge range of different watersports. There are opportunities to take part in sailing, powerboating, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking, diving and the local Outdoor Centre also offers land based activities such as climbing and abseiling.
