The cottage is close to facilities in the village of Caerwys which has a general store, butcher, cafe and a golf course. There is excellent walking from the doorstep - the junction of Clwydian Way and Offas Dyke Path is three quarters of a mile away. Just a half hour's drive from Gwenoldy is the small rural settlement of Ruthin, an atmospheric town, home to the famous Craft Centre. The beautiful Bodnant Garden - well worth a visit whatever the season - is 29 miles from this conveniently situated cottage.
There are plenty of activities for families a short drive from this quality cottage in Wales - Chester Zoo is 40 minutes by car, providing a fantastic day to remember. Also easily accessible from the cottage is Talacre Beach with gorgeous walks, a picturesque lighthouse and great kite-flying.

Gwenoldy is a recently converted 18th century stone-built barn that offers a beautifully furnished family self-catering cottage with great attention to detail. The 2 bedroom cottage that can accommodate 4 + baby is on a farm that dates back to the 17th Century. It's created from a stable and forge which once served the farmhouse, and has stunning views and space for children to run around in. These days the owners grow organic fruit and vegetables and keep hens on their 2 acres of land.
This 5 star holiday cottage is a relaxing and cosy place to stay - the comfortable lounge has solid oak floors, limewashed walls and a deep sofa and chairs for sinking into. There is a woodburning stove with logs provided free of charge, a flatscreen TV with Freeview channels, DVD and video players and an audio/CD system. The owners provide a selection of films, music and audio books to suit all tastes and ages as well as books, maps and games. Opposite the house, a Grade II listed bakehouse with bread oven, which now houses a computer with internet access and tourist information.
This is the perfect self-catering cottage - the kitchen-diner has everything you need to make the cottage feel like home: a gas cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and fridge freezer are all provided. There is a larder with a thick slate base, built from local slate and a fantastic selection of high-quality cutlery, glassware and crockery. Everything has been thought of - from equipment such as scales, a food processor to a cafetiere. The cottage has a gorgeous view from the kitchen door which will make cooking a pleasure, though there are plenty of local pubs providing delicious home cooked food to tempt you!
Upstairs, the first of two bedrooms is a double with a king size bed, solid oak floor equipped with rugs, pine wardrobe, chests of drawers and dressing table with stool. The second bedroom is furnished with twin beds, a solid oak floor with rugs and a pine wardrobe, dressing table and stool. From the dormer window there are beautiful views across the valley. The family bathroom is equipped with a curved bath with electric shower, WC, basin, heated towel-rail and shaver point. A hairdrier is provided, and towels and complimentary toiletries are included so you can travel light. There is ample hot water and cosy central heating both fuelled by the automatic oil-fired boiler.
The cottage has a private garden and terrace which boasts gorgeous views of the valley to the hill forts in the distance. Roses and magnolia and herbs grow, and the cottage is equipped with garden furniture and a gas fired barbecue so you can enjoy family meals in a lovely setting. Children will love to play on the swing, or the football goal in the field beyond and they will love helping to collect eggs, freshly laid from the owners' hens.
This really is the perfect cottage in North East Wales where everything has been thought of.
We supply directions from our nearest village of Afonwen, which is a mile south of Caerwys, itself 2 miles south of junction 31 of the A55.
The quoted figure is the all-inclusive price for the cottage, with central heating, electricity, logs, towels and bedlinen, wi-fi internet provided.
Change over day is Saturday. Guests are welcome from 4pm. Guests are asked to vacate the cottage by 10am. Sorry, no pets are allowed but the owners can recommend a cat and dog kennel nearby. The cottage is strictly non-smoking.
