Ceredigion/Cardigan
Cardigan Bay, renowned for its prolific marine life - porpoises and dolphins are frequently seen off the gorgeous sandy beaches - is a particularly lovely part of Wales for a self-catering holiday. Children will love the long sandy beaches of Cardigan Bay and there are many holiday bungalows with views of the award-winning coastline. The beaches rise into the wildernesses of the Cambrian Mountains and many rental cottages in this part of Wales are of a high specification offering modern comforts and well-equipped kitchens within a rustic setting. In contrast, the Teifi Vally with its tranquil landscape and tree-lined rivers provides a serene setting for a vacation and there are many quality holiday homes here. The traditional Welsh towns of Aberystwyth and Lampeter are also popular tourist destinations with quiet centres, perfect for family holidays in Wales. Most areas have child-friendly holiday homes and many of the cottage owners supply cots, small beds, high chairs, stair gates and everything you will need to make your Welsh break an easy-get-away for all the family. Sailing and fishing is on offer in Aberystwyth, Aberaeron, New Quay and Cardigan. There is Sea Trout fishing on the river Teifi, Trout and Salmon fishing on other inland river waters as well as Sea Angling and Beach casting. For cyclists, many old tracks have been converted to superb flat cycle paths. The stunning Devil's Bridge, with its distinctive scenery, torrent walks and bridleways offers superb mountain-biking and walking, all-year round and the Ystwyth Trail follows the track of the old Great Western railway line, suitable for family cycling, as well as walking or horseriding. This really is one of the most attractive areas of Wales for a holiday with a fabulous selection of Welsh holiday cottages available. There are lovely farmhouses nestling among pastoral hills, coastguard cottages and fine country houses, perfect for larger groups.
