Croiddur Barn, Cilycwm, Llandovery Carmarthenshire |
|
Croiddur Barn is a beautiful 200 year
old former farm store, nestling on a small rural estate a mile from the
picturesque village of Cilycwm. It's an ideal spot for a walking
holiday with hill trails and woodland paths on your doorstep. This part
of Carmarthenshire is actually one of Wales' best kept secrets as it's
not a traditional tourist spot, so you can enjoy the spectacular
scenery without fighting through the summer crowds. Cwmcroiddur is
secluded, but not isolated - there is an excellent pub within walking
distance, while the pretty town of Llandovery is ten minutes by car.
This characterful property is a great place to chill out, to spend time
with family and friends and take a break from the nine to five. There are
excellent opportunities for bird-watching, mountain biking, riding and fishing close by,
as well as many activities for children to enjoy, from a visit to the
Red Kite Feeding Centre, to a trip down a gold mine. You can stock up
on fresh local produce in Llandovery, with its weekly farmers' market,
or travel to Llandeilo, Brecon or Crickhowell for galleries, tea rooms
and specialist shops, a whole world away from the average high street.
The area's historic landscape is evident in its many ruins and
fortresses including Llandovery Castle that perches on a hillock on the
edge of the tiny village. Public transport is an ideal way to see your
surroundings, and the Heart of Wales Railway snakes 121 miles between
Swansea and Shrewsbury with stunning scenery along the way.
The county lives up to its moniker of 'the Garden of Wales' in
its green undulating landscape and its abundance of stunning gardens,
including the National Botanic Garden, home to Norman Foster's amazing
glass dome. The kids are well catered for in the Roots and Shoots play
area.
Carmarthenshire's central location makes it a good base for
touring other parts of Wales - the Pembrokeshire coast and countryside,
St. David's, Tenby and the Gower, are an easy day trip.
The owners have another holiday home to rent beside the Barn. Barcud
Cottage, a cosy, well equipped holiday home that sleeps 4, is the oldest
building at Cwmcroiddur and a great place for a smaller family break
or for a couple looking for a romantic getaway at any time of the year.
Or, if you are organising a family reunion, or an activity break, and are looking for accommodation for a large group of 8-9, both the Barn and the Cottage can be booked together
so you can enjoy the flexibility of a Welsh self-catering holiday without getting on top of each other.
